BILIEF TWISTER
ARCHDAIS - International Architectural Competition
Belief twister is a representation of connecting humans at a deeper level to stop biases of caste, creed, colour, religion, and gender, while accepting each other. what better way is there to do this than by giving visitors an experience that twists their beliefs beyond their usual boundaries?
The Rann of Kutch, located in Gujarat, India, is famous for its white salty desert and is reputed to be the largest salt desert in the world. this site is chosen because of its vastness, which gives humankind some perspective on what is lost when we choose beliefs that do not serve the universal nature.
The twisting structure is divided into two sanctums. upon entering, visitors first reach the sanctum of unity, which gives way to the sanctum of acceptance. the sanctum of unity is illuminated by orange light. with no white light entering the space, every other colour disappears. in this light, we see each other as the same and understand how our world is cluttered with illusions and how we remain the same beneath those illusions.
The sanctum of acceptance floods the space with natural light. here, visitors see themselves and others in vibrant colors, accepting each other's differences. combined together, belief twister sheds light on the fact that humans may be divided by several illusions but are connected by their ability to see beyond them.
